The Origin of Abraxas.
Having due regard to the magic papyri, in which many of the unintelligible names of the Abrasax-stones reappear, besides directions for making and using gems with similar figures and formulas for magical purposes, it can scarcely be doubted that many of these stones are pagan amulets and instruments of magic... yet it was created by an early Greek christian.
To find out the origin of Abraxas one have to find out what abrasax's name means and it source.
We see on this image written I AN ABRACAS CA KAWO... and It is Sanskrit in origin, but not the image itself. It goes back to the Phoenicians, who use to live in ancient Greece. To be more clear, they were the original inhabitants of Greece.
The first letter is I AN, from Sanskrit inakS = strive to obtain
As you notice, Ab-rakaz name starts with ab, from Sanskrit Abha, which means splendor. The name of Abraham also starts with Abh, followed by Rama, which means Fidelity, and beloved.
The next word after abh is rakaz from Sanskrit racanA, which translates to architecture.
The last word is ca kawo again a Sanskrit word, kA-camaci, which means joy. Hence, it can also mean 'consciousness', 'knowledge'. It also translates to alkaline ashes, which makes any soil fertil. Perhaps that is the reason for the snake legs, as the snake portraying fertility or uncontrolled desires. It has both positive and negative meaning, a warning to keep balance.
The whip in the hand is not a whip, but a crain, to help to erect large stones for example. Hence, it is representing an architect. The shield in the hand is a reflection of safety in knowing. The greatest architect is the Universe, it is creation from the Sun, which often appears in Sanskrit as YAH-ZUS, which word contains Zeus, translating to sound, vibration, energy, etc. I believe the Freemasons adopted this knowledge and created the image of Abraxas.
